pWith the economic downturn, itrsquo;s harder than ever to find another job if you inauspiciously get laid off from your a href=http://pharmaceuticalsalesadvisor.com target=_blankpharmaceutical job/a. To that end I have laid out 7 things you should be doing diligently, every week until the end of the year. If you do this I promise you that you will not be caught with your pants down if the most unfortunate happens./p

liNETWORK ndash; And I do not mean network with other pharmaceutical reps or managers necessarily. I mean network with reps or managers in the industry you want to get into. For example biotech, medical devices or another industry entirely. The time to get your ducks in a row is NOW. As a former District Manager, Brand Manager, Director and even in my current role at corporate I have reviewed and interviewed hundreds and hundreds of people. The only people I interviewed were the ones who were sent to me by an internal person. Not from a Monster or TheLadders posting. /li
lia href=http://pharmaceuticalsalesadvisor.com target=_blankRESUMES/a ndash; Make it a goal to send out 3-5 resumes per week. This may not sound like a lot but in 1 month you will have sent out 12-20 resumes and you are bound to get 1-2 calls from that effort at the very minimum. /li
liTHE NO BS RESUME ndash; I know that there are tons of theories on resumes, what to put, quantifying etc.nbsp;Again Irsquo;m not here to BS, take it from a person who has hired dozens of people and interviewed hundreds. The thing I am looking for is this ndash; what makes YOU unique and different from the hundred other candidates out there? If you are a a href=http://pharmaceuticalsalesadvisor.com target=_blankpharmaceutical sales representative /awhat have you done or bring to the table that makes you unique? When I first promoted from Representative to Trainer I highlighted on my resume that I had taken over 12 seminars on negotiating and body language over the last 3 years. Skills that I could easily teach the sales reps I would be teaching. How many other candidates do you think had that? Guess who got the job? If you have no idea what makes you unique ask your friends. You would be surprised. For example if you speak Russian and are applying to a position with a lot of Russian doctors, highlight that. Just stand out! /li
liYOUR WORK ndash; Do not do anything stupid, compliance wise etc. Do a good job right now and make sure your DM knows that. If your DM is not on good terms with you then network with other DMrsquo;s in your region. Pick up the phone and say hello and tell them what has worked in your area. How many other reps do that you think? Do you think that DM will remember you? Donrsquo;t you think they talk to each other? /li
liSAVE ndash; Save at least 10% of what you make and put it into stocks. Do not worry about the moods of the market. Over time they will go up. If you need suggestions on what stocks to buy send me a note or I will put you in touch with someone who has helped me achieve 14% ROI, on average, over the last 5 years. /li
liREAD ndash; For at least 5 hours per week something having to do with business, finance, or the industry you want to crack. Pick up the WSJ, or read online if you have to. But please do not skip this step. You will be amazed how handy this will serve you come interview time. I myself read about 10-12 hours per week. /li
liATTITUDE ndash; Yes the economy is crappy, layoffs loom, you are in a spiraling industry. But you have to keep a very positive attitude. This is crucial because positive attracts positive. Now a healthy amount of skepticism is great. And I donrsquo;t believe in the ldquo;rah-rahrdquo;, Tony Robbins style, type of positivity. Just make sure you have a healthy and positive outlook at all times and good things will happen. Easier said than done so do this every morning to keep a positive attitude. First thing in the morning ask yourself these questions: What am I thankful for? What is going good for me right now? Do the same at night before you go to bed. You will be amazed at what your outlook will be like in 2 weeks. Asking those 2 questions in the am and pm will dramatically enhance your positivity and attract good things to you! /li
